Q. I have before me a letter written by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953 to the Calendar Reform Committee. He wrote, ‘Now that we have attained independence, it is obviously desirable that there should be a certain uniformity in the calendar for our civic, social and other purposes and this should be based on a scientific approach to the problem…’ It’s been many years since this message was written, nothing has happened. What is your interest in bringing up this issue again?
A. It is not exactly that nothing happened. That Committee did indeed agree on a calendar for the nation; but in what concerns ‘other purposes’ the result was unfortunate. In the same letter Pandit Nehru remarks that there are some 30 calendars in use and that this causes a certain confusion. It was made worse confounded by the fact that there is no agreement on the actual starting point of the calendar year among Hindus, unlike for civic purposes with the government having adopted the calendar in use throughout the world. Written for students of the New Cosmology by Thea (Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet) Director, Aeon Centre of Cosmology January 24, 2009.

Something more must be said of the Earth’s axial tilt at 23.20 degrees since it plays a role in the fantasies, if they may be so called, of many new-age groups. If I am not mistaken, even Edgar Cayce spoke of a future re-alignment of this axis at an unspecified time which would cause wide-spread destruction. Over our recorded period of history this 23 degree tilt has been in place – and certainly for an untold number of years before our times. In my view, the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza reveals that the ancients had the tilt on their minds as well. Continue reading ‘The Question of Alignment and the iconic 2012′
The 26 November Mumbai Attacks fell on the 82nd anniversary of Immortality Day, and 36 years exactly after the Mother gave the following ‘Immortality Day’ message:
‘Before dying, falsehood rises in full swing. Still people understand only the lesson of Catastrophe. Will it have to come before they open their eyes to the truth? I ask an effort from all so that it has not to be. It is only the truth that can save us; truth in words, truth in action, truth in will, truth in feelings. It is a choice between serving the truth or being destroyed.’ – The Mother, 26 November 1972
Do these synchronicities fall into the mind’s waste bin of random coincidence? Is it at all significant that the passage of the Indian Constitution also transpired on 26 November, in 1949? An excerpt taken from Movement of Restoration of Vedic Wisdom:
‘From antiquity the Vedic/Hindu civilization has been founded upon certain eternal truths, forming the basis of the ancient dharma. It is a mythic civilization, rooted in the cosmic harmonies which permeate every facet of its culture, not merely as a passive reflection of a static cosmos, but as an applied dynamic knowledge. With the passage of the Ages, knowledge of these laws and harmonies became clouded over. The ancient Vedic scriptures, repository of these immutable truths, succumbed to interpretations which fragmented their original unity. As a consequence their sublime truths were either misinterpreted or lost. Continue reading ‘More on Makar Sankranti & the Winter Solstice’
Dear Friends, I am happy to announce that the one day Conference on Vedic Calendar at Kumbakonam conducted by Madam Thea on 9th December 2008 ended successfully.
[I was recently asked in a study group] to write something about the approaching Winter Solstice celebrated in India as its most important cosmological ritual, the Makar Sankranti. As most of you will know by now, the Solstices and Equinoxes are the balancing points of our journey, both individual and collective, around the Gnostic Circle. Indeed, we reproduce the movement of the Earth in its revolution around the Sun on the basis of the laws of correspondence in which “a day equals a year”. The Solstices and Equinoxes mark off the four divisions of the 24 hour day as Dawn, Noon, Sunset and Midnight. Those of you who have observed your passage through the Circle on the basis of these divisions will appreciate the accuracy of this Cosmic symbolism and also the indispensable need of an accurate measure to insure the correct starting point of your journey. The need of a true measure becomes even more important when applied to collectivities because even a slight inaccuracy can make the difference between Dharma and Adharma, truth or falsehood.

Q: There has been a lot of news here in India on the upcoming elections in the USA. A month ago when the primaries began the front page of THE HINDU was full of the results, along with big photos. In your cosmology you put the India-USA axis as a central tenet. So how do you assess all that is happening now? Continue reading ‘India and America in the New Order’
“INDIA”, said the Mother “is a divinely chosen country with a unique spiritual heritage. She is not the earth, rivers and mountains, nor simply the collective name for the inhabitants of this land.
India alone can lead the earth to peace and a new world order.”
The Mother: “On the Destiny of India”

‘There is perhaps a truth in the Vedic idea that the Spirit of creation framed all the movements of the world by chandas, in certain fixed rhythms of the formative Word, and it is because they are faithful to the cosmic metres that the basic world-movements unchangingly endure. A balance harmony maintained by a system of subtle recurrence is the foundation of immortality in created things, and metrical movement is simply creative sound grown conscious of this secret of its own powers.’ - Sri Aurobindo, ‘The Future Poetry’
